The interdisciplinary major in
Organizational Communication

Fundraising
Suggestions for students who want to coordinate philanthropy activities for corporations, and who want to coordinate fundraising for nonprofit organizations, political interest groups, and political candidates. Students might coordinate such fundraising events and activities as fun runs, galas and balls, annual fundraising campaigns, membership drives, gift clubs, capital campaigns, and phonathons.

Courses below seem to be best if your interest is in fundraising; however, they are not required. You may take any of the courses approved for General Education and for the Cognate in the Organizational Communication major.

General Education – 41 hours
Suggestions for General Education: From among the 41 hours required in the General Education, we recommend specific courses in two areas which seem pertinent to fundraising.

Humanities and/or Fine Arts:
    PHIL 1030 Introduction to Philosophy
Social/Behavioral Sciences:
    AAS 2100 Introduction to African-American Studies
    PS 1010 Foundations of Government
    PS 2010 American Government and Politics
    PSY 1410 General Psychology

Organizational Communication major – 30 hours (fall 2008 catalog); 31 hours (2003 to summer 2008 catalog)
Please talk to your advisor about requirements in the major.

Required statistics and internship – 6 hours (fall 2008 catalog)
Majors are required to take a statistics course and to choose 3 internship hours from the following: ORCO 4220 Internship, COED 2930 Cooperative Education, or COMM 3620/3630/4620/4630 Applied Communication.

Cognate -- 18 hours
