The interdisciplinary major in
Organizational Communication

Sport and Fitness Organizations
Suggestions for students who want to coordinate wellness, fitness, activity programs; plan special events for fitness and fundraising; and oversee wellness and fitness education efforts for corporations, nonprofit organizations, gyms, health clubs, camps, community recreation, and community sports teams.

Courses below seem to be best if your interest is in sport and fitness organizations; however, they are not required. You may take any of the courses approved for General Education and for the Cognate in the Organizational Communication major.

General Education – 41 hours
Suggestions for General Education: From among the 41 hours required in the General Education, we recommend specific courses in three areas which seem pertinent to sport and fitness organizations.

Humanities and/or Fine Arts:
    DANC 1000 Dance Appreciation
Natural Sciences:
    BIOL 1030/1031 Topics in Biology or BIOL 1110/1111 General Biology
    CHEM 1030/1031 Chemistry for the Consumer
Social/Behavioral Sciences:
    HLTH 1530 Health and Wellness

Organizational Communication major – 30 hours (fall 2008 catalog); 31 hours (2003 to summer 2008 catalog)
Please talk to your advisor about requirements in the major.

Required statistics and internship – 6 hours (fall 2008 catalog)
Majors are required to take a statistics course and to choose 3 internship hours from the following: ORCO 4220 Internship, COED 2930 Cooperative Education, or COMM 3620/3630/4620/4630 Applied Communication.

Cognate -- 18 hours
